Fall for the Arts

Meet the Artist: Clyde Ericson

Last Updated 8/17/2026

For Clyde Ericson, art isn't simply something he creates — it's also something he has spent years sharing with others.

Raised in Osceola, Nebraska, Clyde pursued his interest in art at Concordia University, Nebraska, where he earned a degree in art education. That path eventually brought him to Columbus and Scotus Central Catholic, where he has spent the past 10 years teaching art and encouraging students to discover their own creativity.

But the teacher is also very much an artist.

Clyde works across different styles and mediums, from the intricate lines and textures of ink drawings to the softer washes of watercolor and richly layered landscapes. His work demonstrates how an artist can approach the world in very different ways — sometimes focusing on the smallest details and at other times stepping back to capture the colors, atmosphere and character of an entire scene.

That willingness to explore is also an important part of being an art educator. Creating alongside his role as a teacher allows Clyde to continue experimenting, learning and experiencing the same creative process he encourages in his students.

Beyond the classroom, Clyde is an active member of the Columbus community, making his participation in Fall for the Arts especially fitting. The festival isn't only about displaying finished works of art. It's about recognizing the people who create, teach, perform, inspire and contribute to the creative life of our community.

Clyde does a little bit of all of that.
