Fall for the Arts

Artist Profile: Patrice Wielgus

Last Updated 8/14/2026

Mixed Media Artist • Columbus, Nebraska

Art has been a lifelong companion for Patrice Wielgus — a way to explore ideas, express emotion and connect with the world around her.

A Columbus-based artist, Patrice works across an impressive variety of mediums, including pencil, pen, watercolor, acrylic and mixed media. She also creates unique jewelry using repurposed pieces, giving new life and meaning to materials through art.

A JOURNEY INTO COLOR

Patrice's artistic journey hasn't always been filled with color.

For years, pencil was her preferred medium, and she was hesitant to venture into color. That changed in her thirties when she began experimenting with watercolor and discovered an entirely new way to express herself.

Today, color, texture and experimentation have become important parts of her creative process. Her work can range from detailed black-and-white drawings to expressive paintings and mixed-media pieces that invite viewers to stop and take a closer look.

ART WITH MEANING

Family is one of Patrice's greatest sources of inspiration, but her work also explores deeply human subjects. Through her art, she seeks to engage viewers with themes surrounding mental health, emotion and resilience — creating pieces that encourage people to pause, reflect and feel.

Her commitment to art extends beyond her own studio. Patrice volunteers as a docent at the Columbus Art Gallery, where she helps welcome visitors and create a space where everyone can feel comfortable experiencing art.
