Musician Profile: Jim Davis
For many people around Columbus, the name Jim Davis is associated with a guitar, a microphone and a familiar voice.
A vocalist and acoustic guitarist, Jim has spent years sharing music with audiences throughout the area. On Saturday, September 19, he'll help kick off Fall for the Arts, performing at Brick Side at 11 a.m.
But music is only one side of Jim's creative story.
A STORYTELLER AT HEART
There's an intimacy to an acoustic performance. Strip away the large production and what's left is the song, the voice and the person sharing it.
That's where Jim is at home.
Storytelling is an important thread throughout his creative life. With a guitar, those stories unfold through lyrics, melody and performance.
And while music is the side of Jim we're introducing today, visitors to Fall for the Arts are going to discover that he has another way of telling stories, too.
WHEN ONE CREATIVE PASSION LEADS TO ANOTHER
Some time ago, Jim made the decision to set his guitar aside a little more often and devote more of his creative energy to another longtime interest — painting.
He even created a work depicting the perspective of looking across his guitar toward an easel. That painting became an important moment in his creative journey, inspiring him to begin painting daily.
The guitar, however, was never put away for good.
Music remains an important part of Jim's creative life, and Fall for the Arts gives him an opportunity to bring those worlds together.
